Have searched & searched for my original post asking for a good Italian on Brady, as I wanted to thank the recommender. Anyway, took the whole family - from picky & bland loving 91 year old grandpa to my also picky & semi-vegetarian 24 year old niece & 16 year old daughter. Very festive for Christmas. Somewhat cool greeting from Mimma & started out rough - we were put in an awkward small drafty table in the front corner room, with no opportunities for moving. Service was pretty shaky - had a hard time getting bread & initial drinks not made the way they were requested. Had to bite my cheeks to keep from laughing at the waiter's over the top description of the Soave wine of the day they were pushing really really hard. Asked for a wine list, which didn't seem to endear myself to anyone and, after ordering a Terra di Tufo (I believe, it's been a few weeks), they still brought out the Soave & uncorked it before I realized what was happening. So, I was even less popular when I sent the overworked waiter back to get the wine we had ordered and waited and waited for it to appear. Really starting to get worried, as this was all my idea & if grandpa & the girls aren't happy, no one is...
Things started looking up when we read the menus - huge list of offerings - was a bit concerned how they could do all well. Long list of recited specials - mainly grilled chicken, veal, beef, etc. items. Had to admit, everything sounded delicious. Daughter had the caprese salad & pronounced it quite good, but felt the tomatoes needed to be a little riper - hey, it's Milwaukee in December... Grandma & grandpa both had the regular lasagna - huge portions & pronounced it quite delicious. Niece had a penne/chicken/light tomato dish that was good. Husband loved his linguini vongole in olive oil/garlic - judges all Italian restaurants by their execution of this simple dish - up against his favorites on the Amalfi Coast and this one was a winner. I LOVED my Nero Tagliatelle with scampi, scallps & crab in a porcini sun-dried tomato pecarino (might have been romano) cream sauce - totally rich & indulgent, but it was fabulous!! All's well that ends well - left with smiles after receiving kisses & hugs from Mimma, and looking forward to next trip back to WI to try some more of her specialties! So, many thanks again to the Chowhounder who suggested this - just wish I could find my post to thank you properly!
P.S. Dinner at the University Club wasn't nearly as succcessful - Other than the escargot, Bleech!!
