My wife and I are traveling to Milwaukee this weekend for a short getaway. Ive compiled a short list of places that we might end up, but we (my wife especially) desire flexibility, so Id like to have some options in different places/for different meals. Were driving up from Chicago Saturday morning and back home Sunday afternoon, so we dont have nearly enough time for everything Id like to do. Heres a list of some options, culled from this board and elsewhere:
Maybe get to Milwaukee for Saturday breakfast, possibly at Jos Café.
Plan to hit the art museum late morning/early afternoon.
Probably do a low-key lunch or snack optionpossibilities include Sollys, Zaffiros, Speed Queen BBQ, and most certainly at some point, Kopps. Conejito's Place also could be an option.
Maybe hit Watts Tea Room for a late afternoon snack.
For dinner we will probably do something a little nicer, Coquette Cafe I think will be it, but possibly Celia, or Karl Ratzsch's, or Three Brothers if a different mood strikes us.
Sunday morning I suspect will dine at the hotel restaurant, Cafe Metro or Metro Cafe, whatever, if we haven't eaten there yet, and then for lunch one of the places we haven't been yet. Unless we decide to eat on our way home in Racine or Kenosha where, as I see it, our options include Wells Bros. (Racine) or DeRango's or Tenuta's if we didn't hit Zaffiro's in Milwaukee, or Mangia or the Brat Stop.
Anything to add, or obviously missing? Anything else we shouldn't miss while in Milwaukee? I'm thinking about touring the Sprecher's brewery as well.
Also, specific ordering recommendations:
Kopp's? Should a first-timer just get vanilla in all its pure glory? Or opt for the renowned flavor of the day? Plain cone or bowl or sundae?
And Mugs mentioned earlier that he "ordered wrong" at Zaffiro's. What does that mean? Any suggestions?
Thanks in advance for any help and I'll be sure to report back.
