Traveling back to NY brought us to Milford, PA at lunch time. Looking for a quick lunch with good food. Found both on the main street into town from I-84 (Harford St.) We spotted a big sign for Holly's Soup Connection. Observing lots of foot traffic in and out and decided to give it a try.
The restaurant is in a converted house. There is a small dining room which will seat 16 plus a counter with seats for 4. Another room is only for carry out. Their lunch menu featured six, stick-to-the ribs kind of soups. A real draw on an 18 degree day. They also had chili. We opted for Hungarian mushroom and beef stroganoff. Both were excellent. The mushroom soup was heavy on the mushrooms and had a bit of spice to give it a kick. The beef soup had plenty of meat and thick noodles. You can get a little sample of the soup before you order.
There is a special, soup (cup or bowl) with a "stick" sandwich. This is a toasted garlic breadstick with a sandwich filling...six or seven to choose from. I had regular chicken salad, but could have selected sesame chicken or blackened chicken salad.
All sandwich fillings are home made. A little cup of slaw came with the sandwich. It was good and not swimming in mayo..which I hate.
In the take out area there is also a little salad bar to make your own salad. It got high marks from me because there were lovely, fresh, assorted greens...no iceberg!
Lunch for two was just over $10 including tax.
A return trip is definitely in the works.
