Tried Mijita last week for the first time.
I ordered the Carnitas taco and Agua de Mango.
Both items were excellent; the carnitas were lightly crisp and juicy and I loved the tortilla and fresh condiments. The Aqua de Mango was excellent, probably the best I ever had. My only gripe about Mijita was the price, $7.50 for ONE taco and ONE agua fresca! I will go back to Mijita, and I think it is a decent alternative to the greasy burrito Mission places, but for the price I felt a little ripped off.
$4.00 for a taco-truck size Carnitas taco is crack smokin', and the carnitas at Mijita are still not as good and the truly scrumptious carnitas that Norteno taco truck sells for a $1.25. At $4.00 a taco, I will need at least 3 to get full, add a aqua fresca and we are talking $20 for 3 tacos and a drink and no chips.
I am happy that higher end Mexican food is making
its presence in the Bay Area, but Mexican street food should not be expensive.
In Mexico it is not unusual to eat at an inexpensive taco joint and the place makes its own tortillas and salsas. A Mexican dish worth forking some extra money for would be chicken enchiladas,
chicken mole, and chile rellenos; all the previously mentioned are VERY labor intensive when made with fresh from-scratch ingredients.
