This place opened up a couple of weeks ago. It's were another Mexican place used to be in the shopping center on the southbound side of 183 between Burnet and Ohlen where the Big Lots and the new Mexican grocery store just opened.
They're running a special now of $1.99 for three breakfast tacos and $3.99 for a choice of lunch specials (the standard taco/enchilada/burrito combinations) with tea included.
This place is the standard, solid Mexican food spot. It's clean, the staff is very friendly and the food, while not outstanding, is quite acceptable and the price for lunch can't be beat.
Their table salsa doesn't have much of a bite, but the chips are hot, fresh and crispy. If you ask for it, they have a much better hot-smoky salsa that I liked much more.
I've had the pastor taco - meat was moist and had a nice fruity undertone, served on a hot and fresh corn tortilla with onion and cilantro. Also had the chicken enchilada lunch plate. Charro beans were full of jalapeno, tomato, onion and cilantro. The rice was on the sticky side but had visible onion and tomato. Chicken was moist and the tomatillo sauce was better than most AND they used a nice cheese.
Would I make a trip out of the way? Probably not, but this place is solid for what it is. For $3.99, you should at least give it a try.
