Mexican: Zarela east 50s -- superb!

God bless you chowhound.

We were looking for a new place to eat this weekend, and so I trudged through Chowhound looking for some suggestions -- and came up with Zarela -- it's on 2nd Avenue between 50th and 51st street.

It might be the best Mexican bang for your buck in the city. The food is delicious and interesting and unique and yummy.

I had a Chili Rellano of the day appetizer -- which I'll try to describe. It was a large polblano chili filled with this stewed meat, and covered in this ... cream of some sort with pomogranate seeds and dried fruit -- absolutely delicious.

The simple jicama and watercrest salad was good as well.

"Camarones Enchipotlados" - Shrimp and garlic sauteed with a spicy, smoky chipotle sauce. was very good.

and the

"Salmon con Lentejas Adobadas" - pan sauteed marinated salmon, served on a bed of lentils with plantains, carrots, and onions in a guajillo chile sauce .. which might be, with no exaggeration, my favorite preperation of Salmon I've had in recent memory.

The margaritas were just fine.

And the prices are fairly reasonable.

I don't understand why people don't know about this place? Go here Go here Go here -- and oh yeah, go here.
