That doesn't sound exciting, but this is the most comprehensive list of Spanish/English food terms I've seen on the web. A note at the top says printing it will result in 35 pages.
The site says
"My goal is to create a complete Mexican food lexicon. I have tried, probably unsuccessfully, to include only words and expressions used in Mexico. I'm sure I don't have them all because there are so many regional terms that don't make it into the dictionaries or the dozens of Mexican food lexicons on the web that I have searched. If you know words that should be included, or if you find errors, I'd sure like to hear from you. "
Where else are you going to find
balché = an alcoholic beverage made from bark of the balché tree and honey.
chilpachol = a crab soup
totopos = in most of Mexico totopos is the word used to describe the fried tortilla chips served as appetizers and snacks. However, in the state of Oaxaca totopos refer to very large corn tortillas that are often cooked until quite hard.
xnipec = a chile sauce or relish common in the Yucatan whose name means "dog's nose."
Now if I could only find places that serve some of that.
Thanks to the Chowhound who sent me this link. I always forget to link up your email address with your handle otherwise I'd give you credit.
