Warning again: Do not read this if you are not supposed to have sweets!
Driving down El Camino Real in Redwood City last week I noticed a trailer parked in the lot next to the Mercadito Latino grocery store. The signs on the trailer said "Churros Rellenos". This totally caught my eye as I've never had stuffed churros and have been very curious about them. I wanted to stop but I was on my way home and didn't have time. Then another day I was driving by but the rain was coming down in sheets. Not good for standing out in the rain trying to eat churros (at least not to me...).
Today the stars were in alignment when I drove by - no rain and I found a parking space!
So here's the deal: The churros are made there and filled to order. Fillings are vanilla custard or caramel aka dulce de leche. They are $1.50 each. You pay in the market, they give you a ticket and you go back out to the trailer. Nice young man working. I asked him how business was doing and he said it's been very busy - said that the other day he had about 20+ people in line.
On to the churros: They are warm, crunchy and very sweet! I liked the vanilla custard one more than the caramel which was diabetic coma sweet....
