After repeated recomendations from Chowhounds I made my first trek to Funky Broome. Everything was excellent especially the very spicy sizzling squid, the very buttery Yam Shoots, and the Dried Shredded Beef in Shrimp Paste. We also go a mini wok of Lotus Roots(allegedly stuffed with Pork though I saw none) and mushrooms. Everything was delicous and beautifully presented. It all seemed so alive and exciting with the bubbling wok of Lotus roots, the sizzling cast-iron skillet of squid, and the steaming wood cask of rice and beef.
The only problem was a confused waitress who thought we ordered spicy prawns instead of squid and then was persistant that we'd like them and to take them, then another waiter came over and tried to insist the same and was a bit angry that I was insistent that I wanted the squid rather than the prawns which I don't care for and definately didn't order. Afterwards my guilty conoscience kicked in that maybe the waitress realized she would be stuck with covering the price of the dish so we gave an extra generous tip(illogical I know) and went about our happy way full of this bubbling delicousness on a cold winter's night.
