Went to Maya's Mexican Bistro (KC)

My boyfriend and I went and tried Maya's Mexican Bistro around 128th and Stateline last night, and really enjoyed ourselves. They have a split menu with half being more traditional Mexican food and the other half being a bistro-type Mexican food... think lots of seafood and steak with a Mexican flavor twist. I had grilled salmon with a pineapple and mango salsa that was also served with grilled pineapple, and it was wonderful! Just the right combo of sweet and a tiny bit spicy. And what could be bad about grilled pineapple?!? My boyfriend was a little more traditional and had the chorizo quesadillas, and they were very good too. However, I could barely contain myself through dinner waiting for what I knew was to come... the sopapillas!!! The sopapillas were served with a granny smith apple saute with lots of cinnamon and a cinnamon ice cream... they were wonderful! To be perfectly honest, I could have eaten two plates of the sopapillas! At any rate, just wanted to let the KC Southerners that there IS a good non-chain restaurant in the area. We really enjoyed ourselves and the atmosphere was very "comfortable." They did have a sign up that said their menu was changing soon, but I forgot to ask about it. We will be back!
