After an above average tiramisu from Modern (nice mascarpone, needs more of that instead of whipped cream), we wandered randomly down Hanover when we discovered that the Daily Catch was out of squid ink fettucine.
Stumbled into Maurizo's and there wasn't a wait, so we decided to give it a try, having heard/read decent things about it. Unfortunately, we could have done better foodwise.
Service was confident, cheerful and attentive.
If only the same attention was given to the slightly dry and less than tender pork tenderloin. Even though it sounded good on paper, the apricot stuffing and hazelnut garnish overwhelmed the mild pork (wild boar would have stood a better chance). There was some redemption in the good bed of perfect lentils and a nice ring of aged balsmic, but on the whole it was disappointing for a $24 entree.
I think the pasta dishes were better conceived flavorwise (did not taste enough to draw a firm conclusion), but I agreed when one of my friends mentioned that the otherwise beautifully hand-cut pasta was a tiny bit beyond al dente.
