My wife and I dropped into Matador in Wayne on Sunday night. About half full and no reservation needed which we were quite happy about as it has been very hard to get a prime-time reservation as it has only been opened a short while. We were seated quickly upstairs and the server greeted us quickly. My wife ordered the $8 house Margarita but the server told her recomended the $14 was well worth it, much smoother. She did enjoy it but it was heavy on the ice for the money. I stuck with Dos Equis and drinks came back quickly. So for dinner we ordered tableside guacamole, Ensalada Verde, Ensalada de Matador, and several tapas to share. The server prepared our tableside guacamole which was pretty good, a bit heavy on the salt, The chips it was served with were good and salty as well.
And then...nothing, No food came came out for about 20 min, maybe 30 min. We ordered more drinks and still no food. i looked around and it didnt seem like there was much food being served save for the tableside guacamole preparations. The wait it took to get our food was not worth it. The waiter kept walking by saying..'your waiting on the jalapeno relleno...right?' Uh, we're waiting on most of our food.
Salads - so-so, nothing to rave about, the seranno ham on my Ensalda Matador was a fatty twist of salted mess i just discarded after trying to chew it for a few minutes
Brochetas Toro - tender beef skewers that were dripping in oil. Tasty but very oily and all we could figure is they were sauted in oil
Jalapeno Relleno - limp sauted jalapeno with runny queso cheese, very disappointing
-Gambas al Ajillo - sizzling garlic shrimp in a broth with tiny chilles, good, hot, spicy, served with bread slices
- good chips with the guac
WE were hoping for a good tapas place in wayne but this not ready for prime time
