Spotted the "Grand Opening" sign across the street on Friday while picking up lunch from the Tamale Shop and made a mental note to return ASAP to find out if they were connected to the outdoor patio operation on the corner of Chestnut and Clinton. Our dinner last night confirmed that they indeed are part of the same family operation now with two more locations in Fresno (NW Clovis & Kings Canyon, and SE Tulare and First St) as well as in Oakhurst and Hanford.

LadyPB had the Camaores al mojo de Ajo (10.99) generous portion of perfectly cooked garlicky shrimp, mound of moist rice, very good frijoles and small salad with avocado slices. We shared a plate of two fish tacos, supposedly Baja style, but rather than battered they were lightly dusted and chopped into smaller pieces, which she found acceptable while preferring hers grilled. I thought they were quite good, especially at 1.79 ea.

My main dish was the Vuelve a La Vida coctel with shrimp, octopus, abalone, crab, and oysters (9.50). Stuffed full of briny goodness, 3 oysters and at least a dozen plump ceviche camarones. I started to order my usual Negra Modelo until the helpful gal behind the counter suggested I might like their red beer, she got that right, a HUGE frosted mug of cerveza kicked up several notches with Clamato juice and hot sauce. I managed to finish it, but barely.

Besides the half dozen pescado and camarones plates (10.99), the 10 coctel variations, 8 tostadas mariscos, they have a nice selection of standards, tacos 1.59 ea or 3 w/ small drink for 5.29 (asada, adobada, carnitas, pollo, lengua, cabeza, chile verde, buche) or tripas, camaron or pescado for 1.79, tortas for 4.99, salads and combo plates @5.99, etc. Soups are camaron, pulpo, or pescado and menudo on Sat/Sun. Single chile rellenos are 2.99 or 6.99 for the combo. Breakfast burrito choices are ham, chorizo, sausage, bacon, or machaca (3.79) available from 7am - 11am.

The space is good size, clean and airy, with several flat screens. Order at the counter and they bring the food out to you.
