I first heard talk of the mangosteen years ago, when it was presented as among the greatest things I will never eat. Naturally, since then, I've kept my eyes peeled.
The promise of a frozen specimen seems to be simultaneously a fantastic opportunity and horrible tease (my faith that integrity will be wholly retained post-thaw is slight). Better to get a little taste than none at all, though.
Spurred on by the recent mangosteen discussion, I brought the subject up at a Thai restaurant near my office.
According to the hostess, they sell the whole, frozen mangosteens at a market run by the folks from Bangkok 54 (I'm not familiar with either restaurant or market, but they are apparently in close proximity of one another).
She offered to pick some up for me, which will spare me a trip, but I got the impression that anyone could head over to that market and satisfy their curiosity.
