MAMA'S ICES gets lost in the lemon ice king shuffle. i always try to go at least once a summer and today was the day post-rockaway beach (ICES ON THE BEACH out there was closed i dk why).
they make their own and have around 25 water ices and 25 cream ices available each day. a few basic styles of regular ice cream too. all the classics you can think of like spumoni and coconut almond joy and tiramisu and black raspberry and....more!
i went for the water ices--pink grapefruit was out ("i love that one, but i ate it all today," the shop guy said -- haha!). so instead i had a watermelon and then a cantalope. the former was great. the latter was an eye pleasing neon orange, but a bit stale. "we dont sell too much of that one" the guy said.
$1.50 each for a small.
def worth stopping for after a day at the beach. i think its about the best ice place in town yr in and yr out. so dont forget about MAMA'S ice fans!
you cant miss the bright yellow trailer on the main drag cross bay blvd at e9th road. its about two blocks south of noel road, which is where the the broad channel "a" train and "shuttle" train stops.
