New Malaysian/Singaporean/Thai in San Mateo

We had dinner tonight at the new Malaysian/Singaporean/Thai restaurant,
Banyan Garden.
It’s at
2946 South Norfolk Street in
San Mateo
Which is in Marina Shopping Center; it’s in the back, where the Japanese restaurant used to be. They have redecorated but not moved any walls or done major changes. It was quiet enough that I heard an interesting story being told two tables away.
We had Malaysian Lobak, Dry Curry with lamb, and Penang Vegetable, and coconut rice.
The Lobak was beautifully displayed on a black triangular plate and was generous. It seemed very good to us, but we are relative newcomers to Malaysian cuisine, so I don’t think I’m a good judge. The “dry” curry lamb was delicious – and got more so as we ate it (the reverse of the usual). Of course, it’s not really dry. The vegetable dish was a light sweet and sour taste, the veggies lightly done and a good variety. The coconut rice was mildly scented and flavored with coconut.
We drank Lychee juice – with several lychees in it. Mmmmmmm.

So, try this new restaurant, and tell us what you think.
