Visited Magnolia Bakery last night relatively late. I was surprised how packed it was at that time (around 11). In any case, this was my third visit, and I tried to go in with an open mind after being underwelmed the first two times.
Anyway, I got the two most popular items there, a cupcake and the banana pudding. I have to say I was unimpressed again. The chocolate cupcake was so sugary that I could barely taste the chocolate. Also the frosting was so soft it was practically dripping down the side (and all over my hands). The bananna pudding, while tasty, was diluted with whipped cream. And finally, the icing on the cake (no pun intended) was a glass of "cold" milk which was actually served room temperature. Needless to say, it didn't satisfy my milk urge after eating the two deserts.
All in all, I've come to the conclusion that this place is one of the more overrated in the city. I want it to be good so badly just because its such a cozy store, and everything looks so good. But after 3 tries, I think I've given up.
I will also add, that the Polka Dot bakery/cafe down the street, has superior baked goods, and also nice seating.
