Mad Maggie's (Ice Cream)

My daughter and I were driving back from Salem, NH on Rte. 28, which took us right by Mad Maggie's ice cream stand in North Reading, which was deserted. A short way down the road, we passed a Dairy Queen, which had a lot of business. This just struck me as being wrong, so we had to turn around and go back to try Mad Maggie's. I ordered the dulce de leche ice cream and my daughter got the ultimate chocolate. My dulce de leche was quite nice--very creamy and with good flavor, although at times it seemed almost maple flavored. Not bad though. My daughter, who is quite the connoisseur of chocolate ice cream says her selection was good--and that probably means it was very good, since she rarely says that. The smalls were, thank goodness, small.

Just as we should try to patronize independent doughnut purveyors, we should also be careful to give some business to little ice cream stands--although I guess, in general, they seem to do pretty well.
