well, i finally went over to try out the controversial lunch special at spicy mina's today...here's the breakdown...
*chicken or beef curry
*vegetable of the day (today's was cauliflower)
*naan or rice
*dessert (today's was gulab jamun)
i had a light appetite today, so i took some home...my friend was able to finish his off...but, we both felt like we came away like bandits...i would have felt that way if i paid the expected $10.99...but, apparently, mina and co. have decided to cut back the price of their lunch special to a paltry $6.99 + tax...
and the food?...well...just as beautiful as ever...perhaps more so...i've been a mina devotee since earliest sunnyside days, but i'd never tried her desserts...so far here at her woodside location, i've had the rice pudding (which is as wonderful as everyone says it is) and today's gulab jamun (which i think is even more wonderful!)...mina is quite a master with the sweets...i guess i shouldn't be surprised...
well, i hope mina's $6.99 lunch special experiment succeeds...i think it will...you don't get much of a better deal even at cabbie joints...it was kind of busy while i was there -- crowd of about 8 in total -- and NOT all chowhounds, which is a very good sign...once word gets around, i suspect she'll be busier...
