I haven't been to August since last summer, but I'll certainly be heading there more often. Three of us went for lunch today and greatly enjoyed the food. And to top it off, it was only 20 bucks a head.
They started us with August's signature amuse bouche: the custard in the eggshell. It was delicious as usual. With the set menu, you get three choices for your app, main, and dessert. Two of us got the tempura fried buster crab to start, and number three got some type of pate. Both were delicious, and neither were small portions. For mains, number two got the grilled cobia, which was perfectly cooked, moist and delicious. A lovely piece of lemonfish. I got the grits and grillades. A heavy dish for lunch, but I was feeling like a splurge. The dish did not disappoint. Delicious and very rich. Number three had some type of pasta with seafood and fava beans. It was lovely, too. For dessert, I had the pot de creme, number two had the white chocolate semifreddo, and number three had the chevre sandwich. We topped it off with french pressed coffee, and they brought out a post-meal amuse (I'm sure it's got a name) of a couple of housemade candies: a white chocolate cup and a peanut brittle. So counting the amuses, it was really like 5 courses for 20 dollars.
All dishes were generously portioned. I left feeling really full. And for the caliber of food, 20 bucks is nothing. I could spend that at Rotollo's if I felt like it. I've done all of the other set lunches, and this one takes the cake. Best lunch deal in town, in my opinion.
