Just had lunch at Balthazar

And was pleasantly surprised. My husband and I happened upon Balthazar while walking around in the area and decided to have lunch there (even though I was sceptical since it's such a "scene"). The hostess told us it will be an hour wait. We didn't mind and came back in an hour. The place was packed and people were waiting outside. We were seated and ordered steak frites for me, beef stroganoff for my husband. The steak (which I ordered medium) was done to perfection and the slice of herb butter melting on top of it made for some delicious dipping. The stroganoff was arguably even better than the steak (tender, melt-in-your-mouth chunks of beef in a delicious mushroom sauce). For dessert we had Pavlova and profiteroles. Absolutely delicious! Service was prompt and professional. If the kitchen can produce such a wonderful meal in the middle of their busiest lunch hour on a Saturday, I have to say I'd love to eat there on a slower night (but is there such a thing at Balthazar?..)
