I've had the opportunity to visit City Market in Luling twice in the last 60 days. My first visit was in late June, and I got the equivalent of the sampler: brisket, ribs, and a link. I should disclose that I'm a Black's loyalist, and consider their meats to be the ones against which all others are measured.
Having said that, the brisket that day was fantastic. Equally as good as Black's, for sure. The sausage was a little runny for my tastes. Cutting into the link caused the innards to just run out. I prefer a link that holds its form a little bit. The ribs were as good as adverstised. Just about the best pork ribs I've ever had. Very tender, great smoky flavor.
I returned to City Market this past weekend, and the ribs were considerably drier and unremarkable this time around. The brisket, however, was the best I've ever tasted anywhere. This was fatty brisket, and the flavor just popped in your mouth. My only regret is that I didn't get about 2 pounds to go from that same brisket. It was one for the ages.
