A few other good chowhounders persuaded me to travel to the East Bay yesterday to try out Luka's Tap Room. It wasn't too much of a hardship to make the journey east as I recalled reading several good things about the place over the last few months.
To start we all shared fries! Big fat crispy fries with real potato inside. Umm. very good.
Personally I was not so keen on the side dips, two of which were a bit smokey. The other was probably pesto of some sort. I would have preferred a plain mayonnaise, an aoli and a mustard, but that's my staid and traditional taste for you.
All five us had the burgers. They were really delicious. Cooked on the rare side of what we each asked for. I asked for medium rare - it was that and more. But this didn't matter a jot. It was scrummy. New addiction. Good meat.
I don't make a habit of dessert all that often but being in the company of chowhounds, as I was, suddenly 4 sweet dishes appeared on the table. Of the four, some sort of molten chocolate cake thingy was literally fought over and declared to be the best of the bunch.
It was a VERY good rendition of this totally overexposed dessert.
I had a great champagne and pims cocktail too. I can't remember what they called it. Ok, maybe I actually had three. Really, I was so glad that one of the other kind girls was driving me home.
