Hey Everybody. Yesterday afternoon, I took my fiance' to Luigi's in D.C. It's been there forever, and I haven't been there since I was in the single digits (I am in my 30's now). I wanted to try it again, kind of, for the first time, you know?
It was mediocre, on the lower side. The service was horrible. Nobody came to our table. I had the wave the waiter over. My ginger ale was flat. Lastly, the waiter didn't come around enough to check on us. I could understand if the place was crowded, but only five other tables were occupied. It was early afternoon. Well...if the service was bad, hopefully the food would be decent. I was disappointed.
We ordered calamari fritti as an appetizer. They served it on a cold plate, with a sprinkling of raw white onions. They were slightly chewy, and they were not seasoned. The marinara sauce was ok, but it could have been store bought.
For the main course, I had a ravioli-style dish. The pasta was stuffed with ricotta and parmasean cheeses, and spinach...served with a pink sauce. The presentation was messy, but overall, the dish was quite good. My fiance' ordered the pizza. She has salmon, spinach, onions, and garlic put on her pizza. Although the flavor was good, the crust was a bit soggy, and they cut huge chunks of garlic and onions. Do they know the meaning of "mince".
Maybe if I hear of improvement through blogs or other mediums, I might return there. But for now...it was a half-assed experience. I left the waiter only a 10% tip. What do you all think?
