Luger's report (1st time)

ultbil | Feb 21, 2003 09:43 AM

Went to Luger's last night for the first time. I made reservations over a month ago and the night finally came.

Started off with the fresh tomatoe and onion app and a few strips of their thick cut bacon. Where the heck do they get tomatoes that size? There HUGE! The bacon was well done and good.

Something I wasn't aware of - not much of a choice on the menu. For meats it was either shell steak or porterhouse and the porterhouse is for 2 or 3 or 4, I don't think you can get a "small" porterhouse for one. Also, I would have thought that a steakhouse would have more than 2 cuts of beef (what about filet, strip...?). Maybe you can order other's but they weren't on the menu. Also, I'm not a steak aficianado so maybe those are the best cuts??

Anyway, the porterhouse was great. Slightly charred on the outside still red in the center. Served with a side of creamed spinach (must get that recipe) and very well done fries - they were crispy and great.

Ended the meal with a slice if chocolate mousse pie and A LOT of fresh whip cream. No kidding, more whip cream than pie and it was good slice of pie.

Rolled out of Luger's very happy...and the waiter was great.
