Louie Califo. Chinese Cuisine - another opinion

There are many glowing reports on this place but last night was my first time for me. I took one of my gourmet discerning customers there for a business dinner and here are my thoughts:

-Drunken chicken: this is a cold dish, I mean all the meats are cold. I am not a fan of this preparation. And I hate chickens that does not have much meats. Bad grade !

-Smoked fillet of bass was good but the portion was very small. Bad grade because of the portion and cost ratio. Taste is good however.

-Gai Lan with portobello mushroom: the mushroom was perfectly cooked and seasoned but they flopped big time on the gai lan itself. Tough, fibrous stems and all. Inexcusable for this calibre restaurant

-Yeefu noodle is excellent ! This deserves praises. I agree with Yimster on this dish. Not a hint of MSG but packed seafood flavor. Looked unappealing but it is a great dish indeed and expertly executed. I had better ones elsewhere but this one ranks up there.

-Nanking spareribs: the spareribs themselves were cooked tender and delicious but the sauce is overly sweet and failed miserably due to that.

-For dessert, they gave us complimentary longans and fortune cookies nicely decorated.

Total bill with tips for 4 adults were about $90 without wine. I can't say this is a great restaurant due to the many failures I experienced. I had great hopes coming in but will not go back. Folks, it's hard to please me with chinese food unless they are done right and excellent.
