I feel like that should be the first line of a country song...
Anyway, it was fine. The place is tiny and under-decorated. It's so small, in fact, that I'm sure it's horrible to get into on a Saturday night. We went at an odd hour (2pm on a Sunday) and got a table easily. Tables are very close together.
Mr. Swank ordered grilled corn, pork taco, and beef taco. The spiced beef taco was exceptional--rich, saucy, a bit cinnamon-y. The pork taco (confit pork shoulder, salsa verde, cilantro, queso fresco) was very dry. The grilled corn was fine, but bathed in *a lot* of chili lime aioli and cojita.
I got the Victory Club nachos, a homage to the spot where nachos were invented. Again, they were rife with cojita and something resembling ranch dressing. They also came out lukewarm, with a film of congealed cheese on top. On the plus side, a grilled avocado taco was delicious. Service was quick and competent, if not exceptionally warm.
We didn't sample beverages, but the cocktail list did look interesting, particularly the spicy diablo margarita.
Anyway, Mr. Swank and I give Lone Star...a lone star.
