I stumbled into this small family market at 9 oclock in the morning. It's in Hawthorne? on Inglewood behind a Cuban restaurant in a minmall on the corner. I was lost and I just moved here so please correct me if I'm wrong.
They have some great Cuban grocery stuff in there. Sour orange, mojo, all sorts of canned beans- some more exotic than others. They have giant bricks of Cuban caramel, a pyramid of Cuban coffee brands, a wall of tequila, cheap fresh rolls and Cuban danishes. The market is great. But they also have a deli. And written in dilapidated plastic letters is
Folks, this is one killer $4.99 sandwich.
The bread: extremely fresh cross between French and Cuban bread. Soft and chewy on the inside with a light crispy crust. Perfect vehicle for...
The meat: tender and smoky, marinated thin filets of boeuf grilled medium rare to order.
Then simply tomato and lettuce. No mayo. No mustard. I did lop on about three tablespoons of the salsa that was sitting on the counter which reminded me more of a chimi-churri made of oil, vinegar, garlic and parsley than a salsa per se. But the meat was so good it didn't need that.
The sandwich was so simple and so good. I cannot for the life of me remember a better one. Certaintly not on this coast.
Anyone had this? Awesome, primal breakfast.
