so last night we had lers ros delivery at the phoenix hotel. we ordered the som tum salad with raw crab, the thai herb sausage appetizer, boar with house-made chili sauce and galangal, and rad nah, plus two servings of rice.
the papaya salad was quite remarkable, as others have said. but the shreds were rather irregular in length and thickness, and i didn't end up with any bits of raw crab, so i can't really comment on that. overall, it didn't seem that the raw crab contributed much flavor to the dish, but it was nicely seasoned and tasty. the thai herb sausage was delicious, perfumed with lemongrass, juicy and tender, served with peanuts and a few other additions that i can't recall. the boar with housemade chili paste and galangal was extraordinary, with tasty, tender meat and a sauce with a nice burn. this was my favorite of the night. the rad nah was the least successful dish, as others have noted. but it was still quite tasty, if a bit watery and clumpy.
i didn't mean to start another thread on the subject, but the site won't let me post to the main thread right now. i'm usually not the biggest fan of thai food. i've never been to thailand and the restaurants here almost always err on the amount of sugar they add to dishes. but i've been thinking about this restaurant all day and night, and almost went back tonight for dinner, but needed to recover from this weekend's festivities.
i think the boar dish is #105 on the menu, but don't have a copy to refer to. it was just really good, in my opinion.
