Better late than never: DPD Review

My wife and I took a little drive up the coast earlier this month and spent a few days in SF. Of course, before hitting the road, I compiled a list of must-eat-ats and will-try-to-hits. From what I read on the SF forum, DPD was a must-eat-at.

I went there specifically for xlb, and we were not disappointed. Nice skins and good amount of broth. Could've used a *smidge* more flavor (ginger? crab? etc?). Overall, reminded me of the xlb I used to get in NYC (New Green Bo and Shanghai Cuisine). AND, I thought they might have been even slighty better than the xlb we get at Din Tai Fung. The DTF skins *always* dry out too quickly, which forces you to inhale the dumps as soon as they hit the table...

We also had scallops in what seemed to be a "modified" black bean sauce -- darker, not as salty, kind of a molasses mouth-feel. Also had a house special twice-cooked beef (don't remember the name). Both were very good.

Now the sad part: We went there on a Monday night, and were the only patrons in the place. The owners (husband & wife, very very nice) were out front trying to get customers in the door, but the "recent unpleasantness" had kept a lot of people away from Chinatown. The owners were genuinely happy that we blew past Nanking to eat at their place.

So, People of SF, do your best to keep this place going...
