the post below about monte alban reminded me to post an update for la zandunga market. it's expanded since my last visit 6+ months ago.
they've added more bread & pastries. big & small sized pan de yema (eggy bread topped w/sesame seeds), cupcakes, conchas, etc.
two kinds of chocolate for drinks & moles: a clear bag w/orange & white label & boxed "mayordomo" brand.
more fruit-mameys, coconuts, pineapples, 3 kind of bananas, manila mangos (from mexico), pears, etc.
more oaxacan fresh herbs, flowering/leafy greens, avocado leaves.
expanded meat counter: chorizo (oaxacan), carne seca, dried fish & shrimp, oxtails, beef feet, etc.
deli counter: moles, cheeses, tlayudas.
new nieves/ice cream counter- flavors: coco, limon, guayabana, tuna (cactus fruit), leche quemada. i had a cup of the leche and it was unfortunately tainted by a touch of freezer flavor-i'm sure it would be better if you caught a fresh batch.
plenty of mole ingredients: dried chiles, ground nuts, seeds...
