My boyfriend & I decided to try "La Mancha" on Atlantic Ave. between Clinton & Henry (the former home of another spanish restaurant, except the old one, whose name escapes me, featured Saturday Night flamenco). Although they had not started serving dinners (the waitress said they would start the following week, perhaps), we decided to order some tapas trays.
I understand that much of tapas are supposed to be simple, but how much work does it take to charge $7-8 for a plate of 7 salami slices and 7 cheese wedges that were, presumably, purchased from Sahadi up the block? Granted the fish and vegetable-filled pastry was delicious, I have problems shelling out this much money for a plate of jarred red peppers with a few sprinklings of garlic on them. It was like getting a cheap-ass antipasto platter, with everything out of a jar.
The sangria was good, but I'm surprised I wasn't charged extra for the fruit. After all, the produce market is a couple of doors past Sahadi...
I hope dinners are better...
