LA Hound report - Matyson, Cross Keys Diner & more

Thanks again for your suggestions - we had a great trip and ate very well.

Lunch Friday @ Reading Terminal Market - managed to have a pork sandwich from DiNics, the BEST pretzel ever from Fishers, cannolis, bassets ice cream and some very good pizza. Loved walking through and looking at all the food.

Friday night we ate at Matyson. Brought our own wine from home and cleaned all 4 plates. We shared the warm spinach salad with goat cheese, potatos & chorizo - great combination, and the flavor was everywhere, lightly, not just in the 'goodies'. Between the 4 of us, we also had the pork chop, halibut with a wonderful anchovy based sauce and mashed fava beans, the chopped med. salad & crab cake and the night's special, the soft shells over a bed of many different mushrooms. Gorgeous and really great. Had an apricot chipotle sauce. Dessert was a lemon souffle tart, rhubarb trifle, choc. hazelnut tart & some sort of "s'more" - homemade marshmallow, chocolate mousse type stack. Great dinner - v. reasonable for the food served. We were really pleased.

Saturday we visited friends for breakfast, and then family took us to the Black Bass Inn n. of New Hope for lunch, where I had a crab/sherry/cheese/somthing cassarole of sorts that, though rich, was good and full of huge chunks of crab.

Sunday we lunched at the Cross Keys Diner, where I had to introduce myself to Laura as a "hound" - sadly, she had no apple cake, but our lunches & breakfasts were great and quickly devoured - that may have been the best chicken salad sandwich ever. Sunday night we did the Geno's/Pat's thing - tourist or no, our travelling companions had heard of the rivalry and wanted to sample. We ate at each & decided that Geno's bread was better, but we ordered our third steak from Pat's.

All in all, good eating - so thanks again! Should any of you ever need LA ideas, let me know!
