I'd had my eye on this place (on Amsterdam at 80th) just from walking by and checking out the menus, but I'd never searched on chowhound or any other reviews about this restaurant. I just thought the menu stood out from the sea of UWS Italian mediocrity.
I was right. My girlfriend and I split a generous glass of Lagrein- she had the veal ragu w/ fettuccine, I had chestnut pasta with wild boar ragu. Both were excellent.
Simple, well-priced, good Northern Italian food. Better than Celeste, IMO, without the crowd and the cash-only ridiculousness, and that all that much more expensive ($15-17 for the pastas).
For the money, a better rendition of Alto Adige than Scott Conant's cooking, but then again, I've never been a fan of his.
