A colleague and I just had lunch at La Fonda Mexican Restaurant on Lexington, at 103rd Street. This place just opened up a month or two ago and is not associated with La Fonda Boricua, the Puerto Rican place on 106th. The place looks a little diner-y, but they have an extensive menu of burritos, huaraches, tacos, tortas, etc., including some made with authentic, less common ingredients. I was very excited to get a huitlacoche quesadilla. Lots of the big black fungus-y kernels, a delicious tortilla, and good flavoring with epazote. My colleague had al pastor and chorizo tacos and was very happy with them. They also have queso de puerco, lengua, and pata de res. We had hearty cups of champurrado. Tacos were $2.25 and the quesadilla was $8.50. Would love to hear about other items on the menu. They were all ample servings, unlike El Paso across the street, where the tacos can seem a bit miniature.
