On recent "chow outing" we sampled a variety of desserts at La Flor Bakery on Roosevelt. While they were all passable, we did not find any to be particularly memorable. Tasting notes follow:
1) Banana bread pudding: (w/ a vanilla-fruit sauce).... "okay, very sweet"
2) Flan: "... eggy, very custardy (if you like that style)... For a custardy flan, we prefer Sabor Tropical... or for more of a 'cheesecake texture' try Malagueta's version, our boroughwide favorite hands down... Even if you don't normally like flan, you must try Malagueta's rendition..."
3) Cheesecake: "... light, creamy texture... our favorite of the La Flor desserts tasted this evening but somewhat 'porous' and 'unsubstantial'... probably not a candidate for 'best in Queens'..." In past visits we'd really liked their cheesecake but obviously weren't as impressed on this occasion.
This is a delightful place to eat with a great casual atmosphere. The 3 items were all tasty in their own right, just not benchmarks vs. other offerings in the city.
