We were disappointed to see that a Mexican restaurant was opening in the space of Ono Hawaiian Grill. As you might expect, there are a number of Mexican places here on the coast and we are in dire need of some good Chinese food, but...

We have tried this place twice now (once for take-out and once for eating in) and feel it's probably one of the best in the area. I am not saying it is a destination place for Chowhounds, but if you happen to be here it is worth trying if you're in the mood for Mexican. It has the authenticity (at least as far as I can judge) of Happy Taco, but has a nicer decor and more variety -- not just a typical tacqueria/burrito place. It also lacks the crowds and chaos of Tres Amigos (which always manages to screw up my orders). We have had the mole, chicken taco plate, camarones plate, and pork chops. The salsa is fresh as are the chips, which seem to be housemade. Ingredients are all of good quality. Plates that include rice, beans, salad, tortillas, and entree run about in the $8 - $10 range. You order at the counter and grab your own silverware, but everything else is brought to you.

Straightforward, fast, tasty.
