Well, I'm back from the NE trip...many thanks for the recs from my earlier posting. Unfortunately, the trip didn't turn out to be the CH trip I was anticipating it to be. It's kind of hard to agree on places to eat when you have 4 people traveling together, and we all don't have similar food tastes. However, I was able to coax them to some of the little eateries that were recommended by Bob W. and Bags. We did come across many mediocre restaurants that were just convenient at the time so I'll just save this for the good stuff.
Newport Creamery -- a chain, I know...but they certainly make a good coffee shake...we also stopped by one day for lunch when we couldn't agree on anything (which was quite often!) and it had a menu with something for everyone.
Shartner Farms -- found this on a post a few days before I left. We got a great apple pie and also bought a jar of raspberry jam which has yet to be sampled. We were also able to get a hold of their red fries. Kind of a disappointment...they weren't crispy and just sitting in oil.
Angelo's Civita Farnese -- unfortunately discovered on our last day, otherwise, would have been back for more. We ordered a variety of dishes, including the fried chicken, lasagne, veal parm, and macaroni special. Sampled a bit of each, they all tasted great! Fried peppers were also very good.
Took a few trips to Boston. I know this belongs on the other board but worth mentioning...
Boston Chowda in Quincey Market -- best clam chowder on the trip. Creamy and hearty. We had our share of clam chowder, but couldn't find the clear chowder! Probably not looking in the right places.
Yan's Best Place Restaurant (52 Beach Street, Boston, MA 02111 (617) 338-6223) in Chinatown -- the best fried soft shell crab I've had in a very long time.
A good trip...a really beautiful part of the country you don't see over on this side. Hopefully I'll have another opportunity to go back and try places that I missed this time! Thanks again for your suggestions! Hope I can return the favor if you decide to visit us.
