The Ming Room at the upscale Bangsar Shopping Centre is DEFINITELY, IMHO, up there as a serious contender to be the top Cantonese restaurant in Kuala Lumpur (2 others in my mind would have to be Reunion at Bangsar Village and Oversea in Jalan Imbi).
Dinner this evening:
- Cha-siu (barbecued caramelised pork) and siu-yuk (crisp-skinned roast pork) platter which was as good as those you'd get at any top HK Cantonese restaurant;
- Crisp-fried marbled goby fish ("soon hock") drizzled with good quality soy sauce & topped with crisp golden-fried julienned ginger & Chinese parsley. Absolutely delicious but very expensive at RM250++ for a medium-sized fish enough for 4 persons;
- Scrambled eggwhites with seafood (scallops, shrimps) & pine kernels, topped with raw egg-yolk. Stir the yolk into the hot eggwhite-seafood mixture, and add a dash of vinegar. One of my favorite HK-style dishes of all time!
- Aubergine cooked with minced pork & spicy-beansauce in a claypot. This strong-flavored stew went well with steamed white rice.
Very satisfying meal indeed - all the dishes were perfectly-cooked and served a la minute. Service was flawless. The bright, modern main dining room was light, airy and comfortable. Reservation is necessary to guarantee a table at this very popular restaurant.
