A few weeks ago, we made the trip from Alameda to El Cerrito to eat lunch at our favorite Thai place, Krung Thep Thai. This place was originally recommended to us by a Thai woman who told us that Krung Thep is where the East Bay's Thai chefs go to eat when they eat out. Don't know if that is true, but it was really good.
Anyway, we were very disappointed to arrive there and find it closed during hours they are normally opened. We ended up at the new Thai place in the Pacific East Mall in Richmond, near Ranch 99. The food there wasn't worth remarking on, but we were surprised to see the waitress from Krung Thep working there (who, it turns out, is the chef/owner's daughter). We asked her what had happened, and she said that their landlord had raised their rent and that they had just moved into Da Nang Vietnamese on San Pablo at Solano. They had put a sign up at the old place in El Cerrito, but the landlord had taken it down.
We went to the new location last night, and it was as good as ever. The sign still says "Da Nang Vietnamese," but they say they will change it soon. The new space is warmer and more comfortable than the spot in El Cerrito. The chef was very happy that we had tracked them down. The restaurant was very empty when we were there, but we were eating early.
