Dan the Man's Teriyake & Subs recently opened on 9th St, by Etete, off U Street. When they first opened I figured it would be another Sub shop with bad asian food, that is not the case at all. The owner, Dan, and his wife are both Korean, but the restaurant also has a good selection of Japanese dishes. She makes all her own teriyake and brown sauces herself.
The menu opens up with Chicken Teriyake (both mild and spicy), I recommend the Spicy. They also have Bulgogi, both Beef and Spicy Pork, each one is delicious. Then there is an entire section of Yaki Soba options. All of these items come with a lightly pickled cabbage dish, sticky rice, and extra sauce. Nothing is more than $6-7.
The bulk of the menu is sandwiches, and I have to say these are pretty damn good too. I can easily say I've had the best Cheesesteak I could find in D.C. at Dan's, and the best Chicken and Cheese I've ever had.
They also carry a ton of little asian/european snacks.
Nothing more than $5-6, here.
And if you ask really nice, they might break out their secret Kimchee stash from the fridge. It is so good, and like their entire shop, they are very proud of it.
