Went to Koiso last night after discovering two other local places closed on Sunday night.
Very expensive, in comparison to other local spots, IMO. Steak Teriyaki for $26!
Very rude service by the woman who I think might be the owner. Frankly, we could barely understand her English, but her attitude was very poor.
First off, she "forgot" to put in my order of Agedashedofu...so ended up eating it with my dinner. It was very odd, when I inquired about the status of it, she acted like I shouldn't want it any longer and should just be satisfied with the rest of my food.
When I requested two pieces of white tuna sashimi, she said they don't serve white tuna, b/c it's "chemicals". I'm not aware of this, is anyone else out there? I've enjoyed white tuna for a long time and had never heard this.
Her sashimi appetizer was expensive and nine very small pieces of sashimi. In comparison, Shogi in Westbury offers much larger pieces with a generous helping of spicy tuna to go along with it.
The real issue: the $26 steak terriyaki, which my boyfriend ordered. The server/owner claimed it was rib-eye when we complained about approx. 1/3 of the meat being pure fat and grizzle. She kept repeating it over and over. Then, she tried to take his plate away from him while he was still eating! She didn't offer anything in return and we basically had to wrest the plate away from her so he could finish his dinner. I was able to barter the cost down from $26 to $22, but she did it very grudgingly, with no apologies offered.
In short, I would never return here. Very rude service and sub par food. Shogi nearby is far superior, and Yuki's Palatte is also preferable, although I find they always use too much rice on their rolls, no matter how many times I request "light rice."
