While you folks were talking about the virtues of Koi Palace dim sum, I spotted that their website mentions this very rare high end Confucian Banquet, at a whooping $220 per person. It was held a week+ ago at Koi Dublin and Koi Palace, and due to overwhelming demand, they will add another date at KP on 3/28. It garnered so much local Chinese media attention that even Martin Yan showed up amongst other local Asian celeb chef types.
Did anyone go and have anything interesting to report?
The event is sponsored by Koi Palace and a society that roughly translates to the Shandongese Society of Lu Cuisine Research.
KTSF's Business and Lifestyle documentary (airs Saturday evenings) last episode featured the Shandongnese guest chefs that cooked those two nights, but unfortunately I didn't care to watch it at the time.
But based on what I've learned so far, the food looks amazing. A type of cuisine that is super rare in Northern California (or the whole state of California for that matter). Yes there's abalone and bird's nest, but it's not what you're used to seeing. It does appear to be Shandongese/Lu style banquet, and even more refined than Jai Yun if you can believe it (ie no canned corn or mushrooms).
