i know there's an older thread about this place, but i couldn't find it....
we stopped there last night after hearing all the great stories on chowhound. as everyone in ps knows, indian leaves much to be desired and we don't eat at any of them. so i had high hopes for this place....
we walked in around 9pm and there were three other tables of diners. the rest of the tables were messy. being in the business, it's always a warning sign to us when we see that the tables aren't being cleared. but we sat down still with our high hopes....
and they didn't let us down! we're both veggies. started with the samosas. they were delicious, with the crust light and flaky (as opposed to greasy, heavy and doughy crap at other places) and the filling terrific on it's own even without the sauce. they brought out our dinner plates, thankfully heated. we have no idea why other places don't heat their plates, it's one of the basics in knowing anything about dining, and especially in winter! at any rate, we had the (forgive us not remembering the indian names) chickpeas with spinach and stuffed potatoes. both were delicious. the rice and nan were great too. we're not indian food experts, but we thought the spicing was good... which means that yes it was spicy! which of course, doesn't mean hot tamales, but rather a layering of spiciness.
the only suggestion i would have for them... is add a veggie combo plate to the appetizers that is *not* just veggies (unless i was reading the menu wrong).
otherwise this place is terrific. we're in the north ps but we will definitely be regulars here!
kinara is on 5th avenue and 11st street.
