So I can't imagine I'm the first to notice this, but in case I am: Kiev is back.
Okay, not exactly back. The name has changed -- to, for godonlyknows what reason, the "Zoo Cafe" -- and the interior is renovated. (Not Veselka flashy-renovated mind you, but an upgrade from crappy '70s diner to crappy '90s diner.) But the menu is identical, and after two visits, I can say that the food is, too. Which for a Kiev-lover like me is very, very good news.
A brief clipping posted by the door (from Time Out, maybe? it didn't say) and even briefer chats with the waitstaff indicated that a new owner bought the place, and brought back many of the same staff. (The ponytailed waitress who used to frequent the place appears now to be the manager.) Anyone know what the story is here? And why, if they were going to be so careful about maintaining the exact menu right down to the typeface, did they bother with the fershlugginer name change?
