Was in KC last weekend and hit two chowish spots and was completely underwhelmed by one and liked the other a lot.
--Peanut, Main and 50th. A dump with mediocore food that is kind of pricey. I love dive bars but this one managed to put me off. Dirty everything, out of hamburgers (How can you be out of hamburgers?). Draft beer in plastic cups and serious attitude from the help. OK, the BLT was good. But they inexplicably put bad grated cheese on it. My fault for not paying attention to my order. And as my brother said, "Who orders a BLT in the winter?" Good point. And did I say the place was filthy?
--Succotash, River Market. Very good chow (we had breakfast and they did it right; eggs cooked the way we ordered them and served hot). Good service. Good prices. Good vibe. Good coffee which was inexplicably lukewarm which they couldn't reheat because they don't have a microwave. Who doesn't have a microwave? Strange. I recommend this place highly. And it's in a very cool part of town.
