Two great finds in Kailua.
Agnes' Portuguese Bake Shop: I went to Agens' as a huge fan of Leonard's malassadas (the delightful Portuguese doughnuts coated with sugar), but Agnes blew me away. The malassadas are smaller, and in the traditional doughnut shape...that hole provides for extra surface area and extra crispiness. They were crispy on the outside, chewy and moist on the inside. Definitely the best I've had. 46 Ho'okei Street.
Kuulei Delicatessan: Great okazu (Hawaiian takeout snacks), especially the fried shrimp and sweet potates in a sweet (cornmeal?) breading and fried garlic chicken. Good noodles as well. 418 Kuulei Road.
