Just had to post about a dream of mine finally being realized. I just became a certified fair exhibit judge in baked goods. I am also working on certifications in canning and candy-making. And hopefully anything else in home arts that has to do with food. You get certified through the Maryland Association of Agricultural Fairs and Shows. I'm not sure what the requirements are for becoming a fair exhibit judge in VA (or in DC for that matter--do they have a fair?).
So I would like to encourage all of you out there to enter something yummy in your local fair or in the state fair. I know you all like to eat, and so many of you like to putter around your kitchen too (as evidenced by the number of posts during our snow storm). Think of the pride you will feel if you see your entry with a blue ribbon on it. Or better yet, that treasured purple ribbon! I know you all have people tell you that something you make is fantastic...well here is your chance to put it to the test! And last but not least, you will be supporting the time-honored tradtion of local fairs. The number of entries declines almost every year in some areas. Your state and local fairs sure could use you! And fair season is fast approaching!
Below is a link to the schedule of this year's fairs. Check them out to find out the details of entry in your area.
