Joseph's Finest Meats?

Ed Fisher | May 25, 2003 04:07 PM

I saw Joseph's Finest Meats a few months ago, after a trip back from The Spice House, and drove by it again today. It is, unfortunately, closed on sundays.

Has anyone been there?

It's on addison just about 2 blocks east of Harlem. It's fairly close to Caputo's. They advertise USDA Prime, so I'd be curious to know how it compares to the other butchers in the area in terms of price and quality.

I may make it out there tomorrow (if they're open for the holiday) or friday (if they're not).

On a side note, I'm seriously considering buying an entire Prime strip loin (what NY Strip Steaks are cut from) and having it dry-aged for about 2 months. However, an entire strip loin is about 10-15 pounds, and I can't handle that much meat myself in terms of cost or volume. So I may be looking for one or two people to split the cost and meat. My guess is the total cost will be approximately $15-18 per pound of unaged meat. Note that dry aging removes a lot of the moisture and blood from the meat, intensifying the flavor but lowering the total weight by about 20%.

Let me know if you're interested or if you know anything about Joseph's Finest Meats.
