This is what I'm talking about. I never thought I'd see the day that a place like Grano de Oro 2000 tacqueria would be reviewed in Gourmet magazine. And all I can say is DAMMIT, Jonathan, since you beat me to the punch on this great tacqueria.
The article is right-on, albeit a bit short. Jonanthan has probably laid the groundwork for some discussion or a playful "food fight" by a few jabs taken from these boards, I'm sure. First of all, Donovan's burger is like the burgers "your mom would make ... so be warned?" (I'm paraphrasing here, I don't have the article in front of me). Jim, are you rolling up your sleeves? Second, Arunee Thai over Sripraphai? I like both places, but to omit Sripraphai altogether ... I dunno.
Back to Grano de Oro, it's the first place I found in NYC that serves cabeza (beef cheek) tacos! I think Jonathan mentioned the sopes, which are also wonderful. It's on Roosevelt around 98th street (Junction Blvd stop on the 7 train). It is literally a whole in a wall, no tables, just a counter along the wall. Go and enjoy.
